Ryanair agrees to buy 75 extra 737 MAX jets in boost for Boeing | Reuters

Naturligtvis, och detta är inte första gången Ryan utnyttjar en kris för att köpa billiga 737
Nu är det dessutom två kriser, Corona och specifikt för Boeing 737-MAX problemen.

No-frills airline Ryanair has ordered 100 Boeing 737-800 aeroplanes, and has taken out options to buy a further 50, the two companies have said.

"Ryanair is going to be a monster in Europe in the next 10 years," Ryanair chief Michael O'Leary said.

 

Alla bolag men specifikt dessa drar ju nytta av läget. Ryan är ju speciella då man inte har någon gammal flotta generellt- och finansiellt upplägg. Majoriteten vet ju inte vilket plan man åker med undrar om man betalade något alls?

 

Positivt att RyanAir köper av det här lagret så att dom bolag man vill flyga med har strukturellt stabilare alternativ.

Ryanair has been named Europe's best-performing airline of the decade.
No, it's not April 1.

Ryanair, the judges said, was pioneering in terms of taking advantage of Europe's relatively liberal aviation market – far beyond its Dublin home.

Challenges emerged, they said, and were overcome during the period, such as a move to recognise unions, which heralded high-profile negotiations but failed to significantly dent its cost advantage.

The strength it took from its strategy and performance in aviation's boom decade, said the judges, meant it entered the current crisis with a hefty pile of cash to see it through.

'The past decade saw Ryanair firmly establish itself as perhaps the world's best contemporary example of the low-cost business model being implemented to its full potential,' said Lewis Harper, Managing Editor of Airline Business magazine.

'In doing so, its influence was felt across the short-haul travel market, as it dragged legacy operators into defensive manoeuvres and challenged budget rivals with its ultra-low-cost base. Put simply, Ryanair became a carrier that even the most ardent full-service devotees would struggle not to have a grudging respect for.'

As one judge concluded: “It’s a beast of a machine and it works incredibly well.”

Nominerade:

IAG received positive comments from the judges for building one of the world’s largest and most effective airline groups – and one that stood out among its European peers. Its acquisition strategy saw it target carriers with complementary networks and hubs, and across different business models. Notably, IAG allowed each operator to maintain a distinct focus, while it leveraged revenue and cost synergies at a group level.

Low-cost carrier Wizz Air was the other nominee, with judges impressed by the low-cost pedigree of what was one of the fastest-growing airlines in Europe over the decade. Crucially, the operator’s footprint spread from central and eastern Europe into new bases to the region’s west.

Svårt att inte hålla med om motiveringen utifrån vad man verkar ha tittat på. Holistiskt kan jag väl inte heller påstå att mitt resande har blivit sämre vid inträdet av ULCC, då jag kunnat resa mer istället för bekvämare. Även om man kunnat önska sig båda så väljer jag nog det förstnämnda då jag tvingas välja.

Jag har tjatat om det förr, men bristande anslutningar är det främsta jag har emot lågkostnads-alternativen. Jag hoppas att inte pandemin raderar ut de bolag som fortsatt erbjuder dessa anslutningar, eller i annat fall att det introduceras (/expanderas, för Ryanair erbjuder väl detta på tre hubbar) av ULCC. Är fortsatt glad att inte lågkostnadsalternativen för hotell verkar ha drabbat de bekväma hotellen på samma sätt som våra flag carriers av ULCC. Spenderar ju oftast mer tid på hotell än i en flygkabin oavsett.

Tycker det känns svårt att klaga när marknadskrafterna sagt sitt. Hade det funnits tillräckligt många med mitt intresse (eller finansiella möjligheter) hade genren av "finflyg" levt kvar. Bara att acceptera verkligheten, för annat vore som om att klaga på inflytandet när röstresultaten anger att det parti man röstat på fått 1% .

Har vissa betänkligheter kring deras personalpolitik och syn på skatt, men att lokalt reglera för internationella flygbolag känns svårt. Så fort de flyger utomrikes så är det ju egentligt precis lika rimligt att anställa i det landet som i Sverige. Om det är ens egen död att inte heller registrera sig på Irland så förstår jag även den dynamiken (få som verkar uppvisa ett positivt kassaflöde utan stadsstöd annars...och det verkar ha gällt även innan ULCC).

Angående B737 MAX känner jag mig fortsatt inte bekväm med valet (rent känslomässigt), men återstår väl att se hur många problemfria flygningar det krävs för att få mig att återigen lyssna på logiken. Sätter mig inte på en B737 Max den närmsta tiden, och därmed troligen inte Ryanair. Jäkla krångel egentligen, för de erbjuder lägenhet - lägenhet (Göteborg-Bergamo) på 4h30min.

 

Såhär sa han på en presskonferens

Michael O’Leary said: “We have agreed some modest compensation with Boeing for the losses and costs we have suffered over the last 18 months as a result of the delivery delays.

”We are going to commit to taking 210 firm aircraft. We are going to compress that order, so we are going to take them faster over the next five years.

”We are convinced [Boeing] will be able to deliver the first of these aircraft early in the spring,” says O’Leary. ”We are hoping to get between 25 and 30 of the aircraft in time for the the summer 2021 flying season in Europe, when we believe the combination of vaccines and these new aircraft will begin to enable us to return to growth in Europe and that will lead us into a stage of five years of very strong growth across Europe.”

Boeing says 27 of Ryanair’s aircraft have been built and another 13 are in progress.

While the type will comprise only around 6% of Ryanair’s fleet next summer, O’Leary says it will account for around a third of its projected 600-strong fleet five years from now.

”This is the most scrutinised, most audited aircraft in history. It’s also going to be one of the safest aircraft that’s ever been delivered,” he says, noting it had already been flying for 22 months before the grounding and highlighting the subsequent focus there has been on it during its recertification.

”I cannot tell you how confident we are in the safety of this aircraft. Will our customers like this aircraft? They are going to love this aircraft.

”We are not going to try and downplay it. We are very proud of this aircraft. I don’t care whether they call it – the Boeing Max, the Boeing 737 8-200, we call it the gamechanger. What I know our customers are going to love flying this plane.”

He says with only 25 to 30 of the type in service this summer it won’t be possible to let its customers know in advance if they will be flying on the Max.

”But certainly for the first three, four, six months, any customer that is getting on a Max aircraft that doesn’t want to get on a Max aircraft we’ll say ’that’s fine, no problem, you can go on the next NG aircraft’. We will let people offload if you want, but I don’t think there will be very many – in fact there won’t be any, because this is a great aircraft. We are very confident in it. And we are sure our customers will enjoy flying on it.”

He also credits the Boeing management team, led by chief executive Dave Calhoun, for its handling of the Max recertification this year.

”You got a sense there is a new sheriff in town and a determination to get the regulatory issues out of the way. That has been critical,” he says.

And O’Learly hints further Max orders will follow. ”This is not going to be the first of these announcements .We are already in dialogue with Dave [Calhoun] and Stan [Deal] on the Max 10.

”We are not quite there yet, there are more discussions to take place.”
