Virgin Atlantic + Allians = sant

Virgin Atlantic in Advanced Alliance Talks, Branson Say - Bloomberg

Spännande. Jag tror på Skyteam.

Som en bekant sade: OMG, ScaryTeam might actually recruit a decent airline? :D

SAS) inom *A.

Do bear in mind that VS said it was close to joining an alliance over 12 months ago and what SRB says to reporters at PR events should be treated with caution. I'm inclined to think SkyTeam is a more likely prospect. If Star was such a shoe-in it would have happened by now.
__

A* certainly tried, but I know VS aren't on their prospect list any more, unlike a middle eastern carrier or two (one that won't be on the radar) for example. In fact we had a meeting in one of our offices between representatives of one of them and *A.
__

The other issue I would see for VS in *A is that there's a tremendous amount of overlap between them and existing *A service:

Leaving aside the Caribbean network and the flights from the regions to MCO, this is their route network ex-LHR:

Accra, Boston, Delhi, Dubai, Hong Kong, Johannesburg-Tambo, Lagos, Los Angeles, Miami, Mumbai, New York-JFK, Newark, San Francisco, Shanghai-Pudong, Sydney, Tokyo-Narita, Washington-Dulles
Seasonal: Cape Town, Chicago-O'Hare, Vancouver

Of these, the following have an overlap: HKG (NZ), JNB (SA), LAX (UA, NZ), NYC (UA), SFO (UA), SYD (given that the process in HKG is not much different from that of a connecting passenger, you might as well count TG's and SQ's connecting options), NRT (NH) and IAD (UA), plus ORD (UA) and YVR (AC) in terms of their seasonal routes.

That means the list of new destinations reached nonstop ex-LHR is ACC, BOS, DEL, DXB, MIA, BOM and - seasonally - CPT

For Skyteam, the connectivity increase would be far greater, they presently only overlap on three routes: LHR-PVG (MU), LHR-BOS (DL) and LHR-JFK (DL).
