A340 zoom-climb inquiry backs shock tactics
"Airbus series aircraft is very easy to underestimate because it is very easy to do basic flying on them. You can literally jump in and fly the sim without any issues. Unbelievably easy (as long as you remember not to handle the stick as you would normal aircraft - very easy to end up in pilot-induced oscillation otherwise). However, mistreat it or not deal with it correctly when it does an odd thing and it will turn around and bite you VERY hard at times. VERY hard indeed. It requires a lot of effort to understand its complexity properly, which nowadays many unfortunately don't. They do the CBT and that's all, but it's not enough. You need to read the thick manuals properly to properly understand it. However, it's also very reliable so it's rare for it to bite you anyway, which tends to make you complacent. Complacency in flying is a very dangerous thing.
However, AF cases aren't about the Airbus complexity from what I can see. It's more about the missing basic flying skills (the very basics that you are taught when you first start flying) and that little bit that you have to have to be a decent pilot.
Then I can go on to make some comments about other aspects of AF that I find extremely alarming but for fear of being labelled a racist, I shan't. I love the French but many aspects of AF operations and something about many French people do not lend themselves to become good pilots.
At a certain airline with a relatively low number of French pilots, the majority of the serious loss of situational awareness involved a disproportionate number of French pilots, for instance."
